File Transfer Client Settings
Never connect to the server hosting your website via an unencrypted connection.
Avoid use of HTTP and FTP.
Only use HTTPS and SFTP or FTPS.
Never store your user credentials in your Web Browser or FTP Client's cache.
Use an SSL Certificate with your website
When you add an SSL Certificate to your website's domain your user credentials will be encrypted when you visit and sign into:
- your website's Dashboard via a Web Browser, or
- your website's Hosting Control Panel using an FTP Client.
Your credentials will otherwise be transmitted over the web 'in the clear', in other words, for all the world to see, if they choose to look.
We recommend Lets Encrypt SSL Certificates for two reasons:
they are free, and
most Hosting Providers make it easy for you to add one to your website domain via your Hosting Control Panel.
