The Version History component enables you to review and restore previous versions of Articles (and with effect from Joomla! 6.1.0) Modules.

"The Version History screen allows you to manage prior versions of the item being edited. Each time you save the item with new changes, a new version is created automatically."

Version History Settings

Enable Content Versioning and the number of previous versions to keep (max 10) in the Articles Options and Modules Options screens of your website Dashboard.

To view the Options screen for Articles, select the Options button at the top right of the Articles screen.

In the Modules screen, the Options button can also be found at the top right of the screen - see image below.

Look for the Enable Versions setting (see image below) under the Editing Layout tab.

Module Versioning after updating your website to Joomla! 6.1.0

If your website was using an older version of Joomla! CMS than Joomla! 6.1.0 then you should check and enable versioning in the Modules > Options screen of your website Dashboard.

How to disable Version History

You can turn off Version History:

  • globally by disabling the Behaviour - Versionable Plugin in the Plugins screen, or
  • locally in the respective Options screens by toggling the Enable Versions button from Yes to No.
