Release date: 17 July 2026.

PWT ACL v6.2.0 is the latest release of this useful extension.

PWT ACL facilitates easier control of user permissions when administering a team of content editors working on a Joomla! CMS website, for example, a community group or school website.

Commencing with v6.0.0 this extension can be used with Joomla! 6+ without the need to enable the Backward Compatibility Plugin.

The release of v6.0.0 also marked the developer's withdrawal of support for the Joomla! 3 and Joomla! 4 Series.

About ACL or Access Control

ACL stands for Access Control List.

The Joomla CMS enables website administrators to control who can gain access to what parts of the website, and what actions they can perform when they do.

However, the Joomla! ACL System is very complex and hard to understand.

For this reason if you administer a website that is:

  • serving the needs of a large multi-language community,
  • supported by a large number of contributors, each taking responsibility for different parts of the website

you may wish to consider using the PWT ACL 3rd party extension.

Example: Community Website

A club website with a number of blogs, each run by a separate club member.

The website administrator wishes to restrict each blogger to only being able to edit their blog and no-one else's blog.

Example: Multi-language Website

If you have a multi-language website you can allow a particular language user group access only to the menu of the language they manage on the website.
