Let’s Encrypt is a free, automated, and open certificate authority (CA), run for the public’s benefit.
It is a service provided by the Internet Security Research Group (ISRG).
The ISRG provide a FREE digital certificate to enable you to add a secure HTTPS (SSL/TLS) connection to your website.
HTTPS offers end-to-end security between web browser and web server.
Why add a Lets Encrypt SSL certificate?
Two of the web hosting providers with whom we work on behalf of customers recently enabled their hosting control panels (cPanel & Plesk) to install Lets Encrypt SSL Certificates.
Things to consider when adding SSL to your website
Once you have found the Lets Encrypt button in your Hosting Control Panel it is very easy to install a Lets Encrypt SSL certificate.
But you will need to invest some time making some changes to:
- the configuration of your website's Joomla! CMS, and
- any Search Engine and Social Media accounts you use in connection with your website (here we focus on Google)
How to add a Lets Encrypt SSL Certificate
We cover how to add a Lets Encrypt SSL certificate in our Joomla! Hosting Guide.
