Joomla! Help Support Warrington Cheshire Manchester Merseyside UKIt you are using the Smart Search Component in your website then it is a good idea to periodically update the Smart Search Index.

In other words, bring the Index up to speed with all the changes you have made since the last time you indexed your website's content.

This is easy to do.

Reasons to periodically re-index website content

When you create new content, it is not automatically included in Search Results.

And when you edit content the changes you make are not automatically reflected on the Search Results page.

Re-indexing website content addresses these issues.

It also provides an opportunity to scan the resulting list of indexed content and choose whether or not to exclude items from being included in Search Results.

Whilst you are in the Smart Search Indexed Content screen, you can also 'optimise' the Index.

How to re-index website content

Select the Components > Smart Search > Index link from the sidebar menu in your website's Dashboard.

Clicking the Index button will launch the re-indexing procedure.

After the procedure has finished - a few seconds - you have the chance to review indexed website content and decide whether to exclude some items from Search Results.

It is then a simple step to 'optimise' the Index by clicking the Maintenance button, and then selecting the Optimise link from the dropdown menu which appears below the button.
