Search Engine Friendly URLs are ones that read like a sentence i.e. make sense to humans.
They also help search bots crawl your website and thereby improve its performance in search results.
How to enable Search Engine Friendly URLs
Change the SEO settings in the Global Configuration screen
Select YES for each of the following:
- Search Engine Friendly URLs
- Use URL rewriting
to activate Search Engine Friendly URLs.
Change the name of your website's HTACCESS file
You can edit the name of the htaccess file via the File Manager in your Hosting Control Panel provided by your hosting provider.
The file will be located in either the:
- public_html directory, or
- httpdocs directory
depending upon the server configuration.
The default htaccess file included with the Joomla! CMS is called htaccess(dot)txt.
Change its name to: (dot)htaccess.
Note: substitute a dot (.) for (dot) when changing the name of the htaccess file.
