A NEWS FEED is a means of distributing website content (example: news).

It enables remote publication of website content.

Wikipedia Definition

"A News Feed is a data format used for providing users with frequently updated content. Content distributors syndicate a News Feed, thereby allowing users to subscribe to it. Making a collection of News Feeds accessible in one spot is known as aggregation, which is performed by an aggregator. A News Feed is also sometimes referred to as a syndicated feed."

Example

A news item published in Website A can be viewed in Website B without having to visit Website A.

How to publish News Feeds in your website

The NEWS FEED COMPONENT enables you to make external NEWS FEEDS accessible in your website.

This is done by means of creating a NEWS FEED ITEM.

One or more News Feed Items can then be organised in:

  • News Feed Categories  and
  • linked to via News Feed Menu Links.

You can also display News Feeds using a Feed Display Module.

Read more: Feed Display Module.

You can also create, publish and make available for distribution (i.e. syndicate) your own News Feeds.

This is made possible by the Syndication Feeds Module.

Organising News Feeds

News Feeds can be organised via the News Feeds screen in your website's control panel.

To open the screen select Components > News Feeds from the menu at the top of your website's control panel.

You can then create:

  • News Feed Categories, and
  • News Feed Items

in the same way as you can when publishing articles in your website.

When done you can create News Feed Menu Links to publish News Feed Items in your website.
