Akeeba Backup 7.5.1 Bug Fix Release

Release date: 7 January 2021.

Akeeba Backup 7.5.1 is a bug fix release which also includes one new feature.

Heads up: the developer reports this latest version of Akeeba Backup is only recommended for use with websites using Joomla! 3.9 or later and PHP 7.2 or later.

The developer explains why support for older versions of Joomla! and PHP is no longer provided in their release notes. The reasons include preparation for the expected launch of Joomla! 4.

Console - Akeeba Backup Plugin and Joomla! 3.9

Users of Joomla! 3.9 will see a plugin called CONSOLE in the Extensions > Discover screen of their website control panel after updating to v7.5.0.1 or later (see image).

If you choose to install the plugin you will see two entries for this plugin in the Extensions > Manage screen (see image).

The developer advises that this plugin is for Joomla! 4 and can be left unpublished after updating.

QUOTE: "such plugin is only for Joomla 4, you can safely ignore it and leave it unpublished".

System - Akeeba Backup Update Check Plugin

The Release Notes issued with v7.3.1 explain that this plugin is an anachronism i.e. redundant.

And state that the plugin is removed.

We have not yet seen, however, an instance when the plugin has been automatically uninstalled on update.

It can however be uninstalled manually via the Extensions > Manage screen of the Joomla! CMS.

Heads up: Akeeba Backup 6.5.0 was a SECURITY FIX

Release date: 28 May 2019.

Akeeba Backup 6.5.0 removed the option to log failed passwords.

QUOTE: This release addressed "an XSS issue in the Backup page affecting versions 5.3.0.b1 to 6.4.2.1 inclusive was addressed."

On 29 May 2019, the developer released Akeeba Backup 6.5.1 to address a serious bug which crept in with Akeeba Backup 6.5.0.

QUOTE: "Missing language files in embedded restoration script made restoring sites impossible".
