ACL Manager 2.5.4 is the latest release from PWT
PWT = Perfect Web Team, developers of a wide range of useful Joomla! extensions.
The stand-out extension for us is ACL Manager, an extension designed to enable easier control of which members of your website team can access what and when.
ACL Manager 2.5.4 is the latest bug fix release following the launch of the ACL Manager 2.5 version in January 2017.
Version 2.5 was a complete rebuild of this very useful extension which has become a staple for more complex multi-user Joomla! websites.
Version 2.5 introduced many performance improvements, including a more robust diagnostic tool for detecting more asset issues than ever before.
The developer also introduced more proactive support for subscribers unsure how to configure their website using ACL Manager when launching version 2.5.
About ACL or Access Control
ACL stands for Access Control List.
The Joomla CMS enables website administrators to control who can gain access to what parts of the website, and what actions they can perform when they do.
Joomla! ACL or Access Control was much improved with the launch of the Joomla! 2.5 series.
This enabled more flexible control of user groups and permissions than the previous series of Joomla! CMS.
Unfortunately, the Joomla! ACL System is very complex and hard to understand.
And this is the reason why we would recommend ACL Manager to anyone whose website is:
- serving the needs of a large multi-language community,
- supported by a large number of contributors, each taking responsibility for different parts of the website.
Example: Community Website
A club website with a number of blogs, each run by a separate club member.
The website administrator wishes to restrict each blogger to only being able to edit their blog and no-one else's blog.
Example: Multi-language Website
If you have a multi-language website you can allow a particular language user group access only to the menu of the language they manage on the website.
Back up before updating any 3rd party Joomla! extension
Any update can break your website.
Perform a FULL backup of your website (database and files) before installing any update.
