"OpenLiteSpeed is the Open Source edition of LiteSpeed Web Server Enterprise.
Both servers are actively developed and maintained by the same team, and are held to the same high-quality coding standard.
OpenLiteSpeed contains all of the essential features found in LiteSpeed Enterprise, and represents our commitment to support the Open Source community."
The Joomla! 4.3 HTACCESS File
The HTACCESS file included with the Joomla! 4.2 version of Joomla! CMS includes the following comment.
## OPENLITESPEED
#
# If you are using an OpenLiteSpeed web server then any changes made to this file will
# not take effect until you have restarted the web server.
##
Our own websites are hosted on a LiteSpeed server.
So we decided to ask our hosting provider's Technical Support whether our websites are affected by this comment.
"We use LiteSpeed, which is the enterprise version.
OpenLiteSpeed is the community version used for single site servers.
We don't use OpenLiteSpeed on the server, so this (comment) can be ignored."
How should you respond?
If your website is hosted on a LiteSpeed server provided by a hosting provider to which you subscribe, then they are most likely using the LiteSpeed Web Server Enterprise edition.
The HTACCESS file forms a critical part of your website's defences if you are using a Web Application Firewall.
And if appropriately configured, it helps improve your website's performance in browsers and, as a result, in search results.
You should therefore ask your hosting provider to confirm they are using the LiteSpeed Web Server Enterprise edition.
