Mailchimp Marketing Platform
Mailchimp is probably the most well known email marketing service provider.
And we do like using Mailchimp, but there are of course alternative solutions you might like to try.
In Mailchimp's favour there are a number of 3rd party Joomla! extensions listed in the JED (Joomla! Extensions Directory) which make adding a Mailchimp Sign Up module to your website pretty straightforward.
For example: Joomla! Extensions Directory.
Mailchimp Sign-up using a Custom Module
Rather than use a 3rd party extension, we prefer to offer visitors a Mailchimp Newsletter sign up form via a Custom Module.
The fewer 3rd party extensions the better!
You can see such a module in action on the Home Page of our JOOMLERS.UK website.
About Mailchimp
The last time we checked, you could send 12,000 emails a month to a list of up to 2,000 subscribers with Mailchimp’s Free plan, not bad for starters.
And Mailchimp's excellent user guides will help you stay on the right side of Anti-spam Regulations!
What's the Catch?
Double opt-in.
As Mailchimp state on their website:
"In email marketing, senders are required to get permission from their contacts before they can send promotional emails to them. Many countries around the world have laws that require permission, or consent, before email marketing communications can be sent. CAN-SPAM in the United States and CASL in Canada are two examples of such laws, and there are many other international anti-spam laws worldwide." Source: Mailchimp.
UK Anti-spam Law = General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).
