Date: 16 August 2022.
The Joomla! Project has announced the release of Joomla! 4.2.
It is accompanied by the release of Joomla! 3.10.11 for users of Joomla! 3.10.
Heads up: Joomla! Project bug fix support for 3.10 ends in August 2022, after which only security support will be provided.
This in turn will end in August 2023.
Need help migrating your website to Joomla! 4.2, just ask.
The launch of Joomla! 4.2 has not been without incident.
We have experienced three different errors in separate websites after updating them from Joomla! 4.1 to 4.2.
We are aware of fixes for two of these errors.
We advise regular users of the Joomla! CMS to hold off updating their old website to Joomla! 4.2 until the next release is announced - this will be Joomla! 4.2.1.
Advanced users may wish to proceed - with caution - and might enjoy resolving issues which may arise.
If you want to create a brand new website from scratch using Joomla! 4.2 then go right ahead; the issues only arise when updating an existing website using the update package (which The Joomla! Project has temporarily withdrawn).
The HTACCESS file included with the Joomla! 4.2 version of Joomla! CMS includes the following comment.
# If you are using an OpenLiteSpeed web server then any changes made to this file will
# not take effect until you have restarted the web server.
What is OpenLiteSpeed?
How should you respond?
Click the blue button to enable the Multi-factor Authentication Plugins introduced with Joomla! 4.2.
Back up before updating the Joomla! CMS
Any update can break your website.
Perform a FULL backup of your website (database and files) before installing any update.
Protect your Joomla! website
We recommend that you protect your assets by installing a Web Application Firewall.
