joomla help support cheshire manchester merseyside north west ukRelease date: 3 May 2022.

Akeeba Backup 9.2.2 is a bug fix release for the Joomla! 4 Series.

Akeeba recommends that you should always use the latest version of a currently supported PHP branch which is marked as being in ‘active development’.

See links below.

Heads Up

Post Joomla! 4  the developer states:

"We provide limited support for our extensions on Joomla 3 until August 17th, 2023 and only on Joomla 3.10."

Akeeba Backup 8 is the legacy version for Joomla! 3 and for updating to Joomla! 4.

Akeeba Backup 9 is the developer's native Joomla! 4 extension.

Useful Advice

Akeeba Backup v8.x will continue to work for a period of time after you migrate your website from Joomla! 3.10 to Joomla! 4.

The developer does however recommend that you migrate Akeeba Backup from v8.x to v9 (or later) after completing the Joomla! migration.

Migration from Akeeba Backup v8.x to v9.x is straightforward, namely, follow the on-screen instructions when you install  the new version.

Be aware of the following tasks that will be required after you migrate an existing Akeeba Backup installation to v9 (or later).

1) You will need to re-configure Akeeba Backup after migrating.

The new installation will not be configured with the custom configuration (if any) used by your previous installation.

For example, the location of the Output Directory (to be used for storing backup archives) and the Count Quota (how many backup archives to store at any one time).

2) Check that you have downloaded and/or remotely stored all previous Backup Archives created using the old version before uninstalling it.

Apparently, there is a risk when uninstalling the old v8.x Backup Package that previous Backup Archives might be deleted.

More about migrating from v8.x to v9.x in the User Manual on the developer's website.

Users of Joomla! 3.9 will see a plugin called CONSOLE in the Extensions > Discover screen of their website control panel after updating to v7.5.0.1 or later (see image).

If you choose to install the plugin you will see two entries for this plugin in the Extensions > Manage screen (see image).

The developer advises that this plugin is for Joomla! 4 and can be left unpublished after updating.

QUOTE: "such plugin is only for Joomla 4, you can safely ignore it and leave it unpublished".

The Release Notes issued with v7.3.1 explain that this plugin is an anachronism i.e. redundant.

And state that the plugin is removed.

We have not yet seen, however, an instance when the plugin has been automatically uninstalled on update.

It can however be uninstalled manually via the Extensions > Manage screen of the Joomla! CMS.

Release date: 28 May 2019.

Akeeba Backup 6.5.0 removed the option to log failed passwords.

QUOTE: This release addressed "an XSS issue in the Backup page affecting versions 5.3.0.b1 to 6.4.2.1 inclusive was addressed."

More details in the developer's Change Log.

Important

On 29 May 2019, the developer released Akeeba Backup 6.5.1 to address a serious bug which crept in with Akeeba Backup 6.5.0.

QUOTE: "Missing language files in embedded restoration script made restoring sites impossible".

We recommend using the latest available release of this extension.

In 2017 the developer issued a range of useful video resources to help you configure Admin Tools.
