Date: 27 May 2025.
The Joomla! Project has today commenced development of the next generation of Joomla! CMS: the Joomla! 6 Series.
Joomla! 6 will be the next major version of this globally popular CMS.
The Stable Release of Joomla! 6.0 should be available on or shortly after 14th October 2025.
New features to be introduced by Joomla! 6 will possibly include:
- a Joomla! CMS Health Checker,
- SEO tools, and a
- Migration tool (to facilitate website migration to Joomla! from other platforms).
The Stable Release of Joomla! 5.4 (the next minor version in the Joomla! 5 Series) will also be available on or shortly after the above date.
Joomla! 5.4.0 will introduce a significant new feature: Automated Core Updates.
The Automated Core Updates feature will enable the Joomla CMS to keep itself up to date without any user intervention, assuming that the website is publicly accessible on the internet.
Not everyone will welcome the new feature.
Reason: Joomla! CMS updates have occasionally hitherto broken websites!
Watch this space for more news about the new Automated Core Updates feature.
