Useful Advice
Akeeba Backup v8.x will continue to work for a period of time after you migrate your website from Joomla! 3.10 to Joomla! 4.
The developer does however recommend that you migrate Akeeba Backup from v8.x to v9 (or later) after completing the Joomla! migration.
Migration from Akeeba Backup v8.x to v9.x is straightforward, namely, follow the on-screen instructions when you install the new version.
Be aware of the following tasks that will be required after you migrate an existing Akeeba Backup installation to v9 (or later).
1) You will need to re-configure Akeeba Backup after migrating.
The new installation will not be configured with the custom configuration (if any) used by your previous installation.
For example, the location of the Output Directory (to be used for storing backup archives) and the Count Quota (how many backup archives to store at any one time).
2) Check that you have downloaded and/or remotely stored all previous Backup Archives created using the old version before uninstalling it.
Apparently, there is a risk when uninstalling the old v8.x Backup Package that previous Backup Archives might be deleted.
More about migrating from v8.x to v9.x in the User Manual on the developer's website.
