Release date: 3 October 2024.
PWT ACL v5.2.0 is the latest release of this extension which facilitates easier control of user permissions when administering a team of content editors working on a Joomla! CMS website, for example, a school website.
The developer states the extension is compatible with Joomla! 5.x.
It should work with Joomla! 5.1 but may require that the Backward Compatibility Plugin is enabled.
Read more: PWT ACL Change Log.
The Backward Compatibility Plugin is enabled by default in the Joomla! 5 CMS.
Purpose: to enable Third Party Extensions which are not yet compatible with the Joomla! 5 CMS to continue to function after you update your website from an earlier Joomla! version.
If you disable the plugin the OSMap site map extension will not work with your website.
When the Backward Compatibility Plugin is enabled then your website's performance will be adversely affected.

About ACL or Access Control
ACL stands for Access Control List.
The Joomla CMS enables website administrators to control who can gain access to what parts of the website, and what actions they can perform when they do.
However, the Joomla! ACL System is very complex and hard to understand.
For this reason if you administer a website that is:
- serving the needs of a large multi-language community,
- supported by a large number of contributors, each taking responsibility for different parts of the website
you may wish to consider using the PWT ACL 3rd party extension.
A club website with a number of blogs, each run by a separate club member.
The website administrator wishes to restrict each blogger to only being able to edit their blog and no-one else's blog.
If you have a multi-language website you can allow a particular language user group access only to the menu of the language they manage on the website.
