Joomla! Help Support Warrington Cheshire Manchester Merseyside UKThe Joomla! Project has published the development plan for the next version of Joomla! CMS: Joomla! 5.2.

Development commences this week with the release of Alpha 1.

If all goes to plan then the stable release for use with production websites will be available on: 15 October 2024.

Between now and then, the usual series of Alpha, Beta and Release Candidate versions are provided to enable users and developers to contribute to the development process.

Heads Up

The purpose of The Joomla! Project issuing Alpha, Beta and Release Candidate versions is to:

  • provide developers with the basis to test their extensions and reporting any issues well before the final release, and
  • allow users to discover the new features introduced with the planned new version of Joomla! CMS.

Alpha, Beta and Release Candidate versions are not suitable for production sites.

They are released by The Joomla! Project for testing purposes only.

Alpha Phase:

  • 28th May 2024,
  • 24th June 2024,
  • 23rd July 2024.

Beta Phase (Feature Freeze):

  • 20th August 2024,
  • 3rd September 2024,
  • 17th September 2024.

Release Candidate Phase (Language Freeze):

  • 1st October 2024.

Stable Release version:

  • 15th October 2024.

Security and Bug Fix support by The Joomla! Project for Joomla! 3.10 ended on 17 August 2023.

The Joomla! Project last year launched an Extended Long Term Support (ELTS) Programme for users of Joomla! 3.10 unable to quickly and smoothly switch to using Joomla! 4 before the above deadline.

Note: migrating an old Joomla! 3.10 website to Joomla! 4 is recommended before upgrading to Joomla! 5.

The ELTS Programme runs for 18 months from 17 August 2023 and is offered on a subscription basis.
